A conscious choice to delete social media.

What started as a digital detox, turned into a realization of how much unnecessary time and space a single app was taking.

Since starting my business in December 2022, I have moved through many trial and errors on how to run a successful social media account. I strategically planned my content, created posts and reels for this fast paced + low attention span world where everyone is seeking instant gratification. Then deleting my old account and starting fresh, only to be met with the same patterns. There were some genuine followers and supporters along the way, and I even managed to attract clients but the truth is, most people were simply there for surveillance, not support. I’ve received more support and love from strangers than I have from certain friends and relatives. Wild, I know.

Showing up on social media to please the algorithm so I could reach more people, gain more followers, get more likes, started to feel like a game that was no longer interested in playing. I’ll go as far as to say that perhaps it’s designed to keep us in the loop, make us feel inferior, to make us fail so we start to question our worth. One of the reasons I started my business was so I could do things in a way that felt aligned for me. Maybe even paving a new path forward for a new way of doing business (fellow projector here 🙋🏽‍♀️).

My business is rooted in slow + sustainable growth. It’s rooted in depth. And grit. Integrity.

There is no way I could I take the path frequently travelled. Or follow someone else’s rule book. Or follow the herd.

So I decided, one morning, while sitting outside, drinking my latte, listening to the birds and the wind and the trees, to choose a different path. A part of me thinks I’m insane for exiting social media because how else will someone find me + my work. But maybe a different reality exists. One where the right people find me. And I find them. Our paths cross because our frequencies match. Because there are individuals looking for depth, and grit. Who are patient, just like me, and are not afraid to put in the hard work for their higher versions to emerge. Honestly, I even thought about keeping some resources/information posted so if someone were to stumble across my account, they’d be able to connect. But then it’s not in my nature to half-heartedly do things. To keep one foot in and the other out. The “just in case” or “what if’s” don’t cut it for me.

So, I just left. I deleted my account.

Said goodbye to all the beautifully created content.

And now I’ll write. My thoughts. My wisdom. And the life updates. They can reside in this little corner of the internet.

I know deleting social media isn’t groundbreaking. But it’s a breakthrough for me, and my business. I have very little idea on how things may unfold. I know this for sure — after having walked away from social media, I feel lighter, and can breathe easier. Music sounds more melodious. Words on pages hold more weight. My environment feels more alive.

And if I’ve been able to achieve all that, just by simply deleting an app, then imagine what else could be possible.
